Different Ways To Celebrate Your Loved One's Life

Stacy Carpenter

When a loved one dies, it is up to you to determine how to celebrate that loved one's life if you are in charge of their estate and funeral planning. When it comes to planning a funeral, you have a few different choices about how you celebrate your loved one's life.

#1 Graveside Service

You don't have to have the service inside of a church. If you want, you can just have a graveside service. A graveside service is usually short and intimate, with just a few people in attendance. There may be chairs and a sound system, as well as chairs. This is generally something you have to arrange and bring in on your own.

During a graveside service, it is common for flowers to be laid on the casket. You may want to provide those flowers as well.

Some people like to have a graveside service in addition to other types of services.

#2 Funeral Service

A funeral service is a more formal way of remembering a loved one. Funeral services usually take place relatively close to the date of a loved one's death. Generally, a funeral service is associated with one's traditional religious beliefs but does not have to be. One could not be that religious and still have a funeral service. This is a way for family, as well as friends, to pay their respects.

At a funeral service, oftentimes the program is presided over by a religious figure or by the funeral director. Family members may make a few remarks, but the service will be led by an outside figure.

Usually the body is in a casket, or the ashes are on display, during the funeral services.

#3 A Memorial Service

Next, you could also hold a memorial service. With a memorial service, the body has usually already been buried or cremated.

Memorial services are usually not held in funeral homes or churches. There is a lot of flexibility when it comes to a memorial service. It can be held your home, at a park, or at a space or place that was significant to your loved one.

Memorial services are also often called celebrations of life. With a memorial service, the focus is generally more about sharing memories of your loved one in a more casual manner.

When choosing to remember your loved one, you have multiple choices. You can hold a formal funeral or graveside service, or you can hold a more flexible memorial service.
